SOP - Recycling                                                            

Overview

This Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) outlines the procedures workers are responsible for following to ensure consistency with the Coulson Group of Companies Environmental Management System (EMS). Specifically, this SOP outlines the requirements for recycling. All employees and contractors must fully understand and adhere to this SOP.  Any alterations to this SOP or related problems arising during work must be brought to the attention of the supervisor.


General Procedures

  • Be aware of the materials in your work area that are recyclable
  • Segregate uncontaminated recyclable materials from waste / garbage and deposit these materials in the appropriate containers
  • Do not mix recyclable materials
  • Ensure proper handling and storage of recyclable materials that are environmentally hazardous, such as waste oil, tires, solvents, batteries
  • Ensure that the handling and storage of recyclable material does not create fire or spill hazards

Recyclable / Reusable Work Site Materials

  • Paper
  • Cardboard
  • Waste oil (hazardous waste)
  • Batteries (hazardous waste)
  • Scrap metal (wire, cable, straps)
  • Aerosol paint cans (hazardous waste)
  • Solvents (hazardous waste)
  • Tires

Recyclable / Reusable Office and Lunchroom Materials

  • Paper
  • Cardboard
  • Print / toner cartridges
  • Aluminum cans
  • Glass bottles
  • Plastics (containers, bottles)

 

 

Note: It is Coulson’s Policy to ship recyclable materials to a recycle depot if such facility/services are available.

If not available such material (ie: light bulbs) is considered waste and is to be disposed of in a landfill provided it is not classed as hazardous.
